Gustave Courbet was a French born painter, popular in the 19th century. Courbet is considered one of the father's of Realism, as he did not pursue creating idealistic images as were popular at the time. He was independent, not relying on teachers to instruct him, but developing his own style and tecniques. He painted only through his own visual experences, and produced some facinating works. Portrait of Jo, Le Sommeil (Sleep) and Young Ladies Beside the Seinne, are some of the paintings featured in this lovely calendar.
