Antonio Vassilacchi was born in Greece and settled in Venice at a young age. Due to his origins, he was nicknamed 'Aliense' meaning stranger, by his cohorts. He produced many religious scenes, those featured in this calendar depict large numbers of people with a flurry of activity. His paintings in Doges' Palace in Venice likely outnumber those by any other artist.
